The goal of displaying a booth at a trade show or event is to let as many attendees as possible know about who you are–your name, your brand, what you do, and what you can do for them. You also want to gain information about those that stop by your booth so that you can contact them or set up an appointment.  Your goal is to gain viable prospects. Gaining contact information is easy when you have a trade show promotion that involves a prize or gift.  The visitors to your booth will place their business card in your prize basket or they can fill out a form that you have available.  Try to get an additional card to make notes on as you engage the visitor and get some basic information that will help you with follow up.  There are many different ideas available for booth contests and prizes. Follow Up Consistently and Include an example Trade Show Promotional Gift

After the event you have an opportunity to follow up by using those cards to send a thank you note and then emailing and calling the contact to gain an appointment.  When you gain an appointment, make sure that you take a useful, quality promotional gift as a thank you for the appointment.
